Computational Analyses of Arabic Morphology
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper demonstrates how a (multi-tape) two-level formalism can be used to write two-level grammars for Arabic non-linear morphology using a high level, but computation-ally tractable, notation. Three illustrative grammars are provided based on CV-, moraic-and aaxational analyses. These are complemented by a proposal for handling the hitherto computationally untreated problem of the broken plural. It will be shown that the best grammars for describing Arabic non-linear morphology are moraic in the case of templatic stems, and aaxational in the case of a-templatic stems. The paper will demonstrate how the broken plural can be derived under two-level theory via thèimplicit' derivation of the singular.

Light Stemming for Arabic Information Retrieval
Computational Morphology is an urgent problem for Arabic Natural Language Processing, because Arabic is a highly inflected language. We have found, however, that a full solution to this problem is not required for effective information retrieval. Light stemming allows remarkably good information retrieval without providing correct morphological analyses. We developed several light stemmers for ...
متن کاملDeveloping a New System for Arabic Morphological Analysis and Generation
Arabic morphology poses special challenges to computational natural language processing systems. Its rich morphology and the highly complex word formation process of roots and patterns make computational approaches to Arabic very challenging. In this paper we present an approach for morphological analysis and generation of Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). Our approach is based on Arabic morphologi...
متن کاملArabic Computational Morphology in the West
This paper presents an overview of research on computational Arabic morphology which is done in the West, as well as a new multi-tape model which consits of three components: A lexical component which mapps the autoseg-mental morphemes of Arabic (e.g., pattern , root and vocalism in stems) to a surface form. A rewrite-rules component takes care of conditional changes. A morphotactic component p...
متن کاملBook Reviews: Arabic Computational Morphology: Knowledge-Based and Empirical Methods by Abdelhadi Soudi, Antal van den Bosch, and Neumann, Günter (editors)
The past few decades have witnessed an increased interest in Arabic natural language processing, and in particular computational morphology. In the early 1990s one had to contend with a number of papers that proposed methodologies to handle the various complexities of Arabic morphology, most of which had little implementation associated with them, with the sole notable exception of the works of...
متن کاملOptimization of morphology and geometry of encapsulated Hypophthalmichthys molitrix oil
In the present study, the effect of stirring speed and the type of cross linking agent on the size and formation of microencapsulated Silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) oil were investigated. The gelatin/gum Arabic was used for encapsulating and the capsules were prepared by complex coacervation. Microcapsules were analyzed by optical microscopy technique and particle size analyzer. Re...
